Dutch ebonised and burr wood geometric design mirror

This frame was veneered with a burr wood that simulates the look of tortoiseshell. This was a distinctive material used in conjunction with ebony in the 17^th Century, particularly in Antwerp, to achieve striking decorative contrasts on fine furniture. This baroque style was revived in the late 19^th Century.
